Great reasons to be a Rockville Lion! (continue...)
|
It can be difficult for
one individual to find meaningful ways to improve their community. By
joining a community service club such as the Rockville Lions, you will
feel a sense of satisfaction from performing valuable community service
that will warm your heart and enrich your life.

The men and women of
the Rockville Lions Club get together for regular meetings and service
projects. We learn about the needs of the community and use our
collective resources to meet those needs. Working side by side with
fellow Lions, you will meet active and retired business people and
community leaders.

The Rockville Lions
Club sponsors a local Cub Scout troop and several baseball teams in the
City Youth League. We provide scholarships to deserving Montgomery
College students and work with middle school and high school students
in Leo clubs (junior Lions clubs). As mentor to these young people, you
will be modeling responsible and productive behavior.

Together
we can make the world a better place
A strong community
service organization with many people working toward the same goal can
bring about real results. The Rockville Lions have been serving our
community for over 60 years. As part of the world's largest service
organization, we join Lions all over the world to bring about stronger
communities, ultimately making the world a better place.

We
learn more about our community and world
Twice monthly club
meetings feature speakers from all walks of life bringing us
information on a wide range of topics, from brewing beer at home to
treating river blindness to updates from political leaders to travel
into remote areas of the world.

We
stay connected with political and civic leaders of Rockville
Through our important
role in community service projects, Rockville Lions meet and work
closely with the Mayor and the County Executive and their councils as
well as the state legislative team representing Rockville. Community
leaders actively support the work of the club.

We
fill needs in the community that aren't being met
It takes the entire
community - residents, service clubs, religious organizations,
businesses and government - to solve the problems of our most
vulnerable residents. Rockville is an All American City because of this
strong collaboration. It's great to be a part of that!

We
acquire and strengthen leadership skills
All Rockville Lions
serve on committees, eventually chairing the work. Members interested
in advancement in the Club are groomed for leadership roles by
attending seminars and workshops, including a program to improve public
speaking skills. Club leadership changes every year, giving plenty of
opportunity for advancement.

We
find more joy in life
See a child's grades
improve because of eye glasses you provided; hear the profound thanks
of a frail senior who is now mobile because of the wheelchair you
provided; send a handicapped youngster to summer camp at the Lions'
specially equipped facility. That's the sound of joy.

We
have fun
We play as hard as we
work! Traveling as a club, we attend sporting events, parties, and
picnics; we even march in parades!
